Tons of materials could be found about Beijing, therefore, this article to be rather short only to be able to refresh our memories about the city in the future.
Beijing is huge, however, if you want to see its main sights, the majority of them is located in a quite compact area. If you choose your accommodation wisely, it will take you just a few metro stops to explore the Forbidden City and surrounding area. It means Tiananmen Square with the National Museum of China, Mao’s Mausoleum, residual Gate of Beijing city wall and others. We picked a Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel offering a convenient location, fair price and nice common area with paper guides, etc.
We never used a bus in Beijing since the system is not clear for those who do not speak Mandarin. Contrary to that, the metro system is simple, cheap, clean and quick. Even we never searched for that we should purchase Beijing transport card that would save us some yuan.
For those who want to avoid the biggest crowds (if this is even possible anywhere in China) and unbearable humidity then don’t go in the summer months. We did that, even knowing this is not the best idea but we primarily wanted to visit Mongolia in summer. Don’t get us wrong China is also on our list but going there only we would choose spring or fall.
